Seuna, historic district of Nuoro, traditionally believed to have originated when the inhabitants of the ancient Seuna, located on Mount Ortobene, descended into the valley.

The earliest nucleus of the city, dating back to Roman times, is evidenced by archaeological remains discovered near the stream known as Ribu de Seuna.
During the early Middle Ages, the local population moved closer to the spring of Sa Bena, building small houses scattered throughout the area, using stones offered by the mountain itself. In doing so, they shaped a secure and intimate landscape that became Seuna, the oldest district of Nuoro.

Today, the ancient neighborhood remains almost perfectly preserved, with its traditional cobblestone streets and stone houses, clustered around the Sanctuary of Le Grazie (known locally as Le Grazie Vecchie).

In 2002, to mark the 100th anniversary of the birth of writer and jurist Salvatore Satta, quotes from his novel “Il giorno del giudizio” were installed throughout the district.

Together with the neighboring district of Santu Predu, Seuna forms the historic heart of the city of Nuoro.

Every year, around the time of the Madonna delle Grazie festival (November 21st), the event “Autunno in Barbagia” takes place.
Its goal is to promote and support the region’s finest local products and traditions in the fields of food, craftsmanship, and culture.

In the most picturesque streets and squares, visitors can enjoy live demonstrations of traditional dishes, bread-making, fresh pasta preparation, and ancient crafts such as goldsmithing, iron forging, and traditional pastry-making. The program includes exhibitions, tastings, art shows, guided visits to the city's many museums, choral concerts in churches, and much more.
