The Costume Museum of Nuoro opened in 1976 and was renovated and expanded in 2005, making it the largest ethnographic museum in Sardinia.

The visit is organized into various themed rooms that showcase the main traditional activities of Sardinia. The museum offers a comprehensive representation of island life through engaging displays: grain milling, bread making, and weaving. It also features exhibitions of traditional clothing and typical Sardinian carnival costumes, including wooden masks, cowbells, and sheepskins. Each costume is a testament to Sardinia’s history, traditions, and tailoring art. Visitors can admire the intricate details, fine materials, and vibrant colors that characterize the island’s attire. Additionally, there is a large collection of over 5,000 objects, including 450 pieces of jewelry, amulets, and various traditional musical instruments.

The museum also boasts a new entrance hall and visitor reception area, complete with a bookshop and related services.

The Costume Museum of Nuoro is an open door to Sardinian traditions and an ideal place to learn about the cultural identity of this fascinating region.
